What does it take to be Chicago's Bank?
What does it take to be Chicago's Bank?

The Answer is: Inclusion

From our first day in business, Wintrust has been proud to serve a variety of unique communities and people from all walks of life. To be Chicago’s Bank®, we need to reflect that diversity both in all the communities we serve, the people we employ, the organizations we work with, and our banking and lending practices. As we’ve grown into a company with a national reach, we want to be known as a workplace that is safe and accepting, a business that is committed to providing opportunities to everyone, and a brand that embraces diversity because we know the true value it provides.

SVP & Chief Diversity Officer

We’re an organization with a unique model. The Wintrust family includes multiple banks and business units spread across many different areas. In everything we do, including our diversity and inclusion (D&I) efforts, we understand that one size does not fit all. While we share the same goals—to create inclusive workplaces and communities wherever we are—how we work towards those goals looks different. What’s good for one community may not be good for another. D&I should be business owned and leader lead. Our model allows each of our banks and groups to find their own, authentic way to the same result: ONE WINTRUST.

When we started Wintrust in 1991, it was with one small storefront location and the idea to offer an alternative to the big bank experience. More than 25 years later, we’ve grown into the second largest bank group headquartered in Chicago and a family of community banks with more than 175 locations. As a business owner, I understand the importance of diversity and growth: different opinions, unique ideas, and a variety of people have gotten us where we are. We embrace an entrepreneurial spirit because that’s how Wintrust was founded. And, we know a good idea can come from anyone, anywhere, because that’s been the case for so many of ours.

It’s Not Just About Awareness: It’s About Action

Our inclusion goals are constantly evolving and there’s always more to accomplish. We focus on tangible things that result in real gains in four key areas:

Employees

We want every person who works for us to feel comfortable, heard, and supported. That means investing in programs that both provide opportunities for current employees to grow, but also those that attract diverse, talented prospective employees. We’re committed to providing resources that develop leaders, nurture talent, and encourage career development for everyone.

Customers

In order to be Chicago’s Bank and Wisconsin’s Bank, we need to be where our customers are. That’s why we continue to grow into diverse communities in our footprint and expand our specialty services. We want our customers to know that no matter who they are or where they live, they matter. Our workforce should reflect the unique areas we serve, so we are committed to hiring locally and training employees on how to best serve our communities.

Strategic Partners

The best way to implement change is to partner with organizations that align with our D&I goals. That’s why we’ve focused on partnerships that expand our effort to attract and retain qualified talent and work towards creating more unified, inclusive communities.

Communities

We’re not just in the communities we serve. We’re part of them, invest in them, and celebrate them. We know that doing so is in our customers’ and employees’ best interest. We believe in making sustainable contributions, providing added-value services, and volunteering our time to improve our area and create more equitable communities.
